Our tutors work one on one with students to personalize an approach for their ACT test taking. We begin with past performance on a practice or official test to identify strengths, weaknesses, and test taking difficulties. This allows us to understand the areas of the test where students need to focus on subject material, timing, strategies, question and answer analysis, etc. We help students develop the most efficient approach to the ACT depending on their scoring goals. Between tutoring sessions, we leave students with homework so that they can continue to practice the strategies that they have learned. We use materials produced directly by the ACT whenever possible so that students are very comfortable and familiar with the test when they take an official exam.
Our tutors can also work with small groups of students (generally 2-3) if a family desires. This works best when students have similar strengths, weaknesses, and goals. It also requires that students be comfortable revealing their weaknesses in front of their peers for it to be effective,
Throughout the year we offer group ACT prep classes at the Brentwood Library. These are generally boot camp classes that address the overall test in a series of classes. Further information can be found on the library's calendar.
Free ACT Practice Tests
We are happy to offer free practice ACT tests at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library throughout the school year. Students take a complete test (without the writing section) and schedule a time to return to the library to receive their practice test score report. We provide a short presentation for parents and students on understanding test results, college ACT data, and strategies for improving ACT scores, followed by time for questions. Registration through the library's website is required.
Upcoming ACT practice test dates are;
